My Therapeutic Approaches
While my general approach is psychodynamic, I employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. At the core of our work is building a strong therapeutic alliance in which trust, respect, realness and sometimes humor come to play. When relevant, we build tools together so the “takeaways” can be utilized in the other 167 hours a week that you live.
In addition, I am a trained EMDR therapist certified by EMDRIA. I have worked with challenging trauma as well as plaguing stuck points in client’s lives. This work, in the right context, can be powerful and potentially life altering. I move at the client’s pace and often blend with more traditional modalities; providing balance and further avenues for discovery.
I have advanced training and experience in working with couples and completed a two-year training at the Training Institute for Mental Health. I offer a safe space in which we identify the specific obstacles to address. I focus on connection, conversation, and respect to find a path together with greater happiness or separation with kindness if that is the choice.
About Me
I have spent considerable time in the business world and have had several successful careers. I have a keen understanding of what is required to survive and thrive, when to re-engineer my approach. My goal is always to stay current, buoyant, and satisfied. As a result, I may wear the hat of psychotherapist/business coach navigating these waters with my clients. Thus we can be very solution focused when required.
On a personal note, I’ve had the good fortune of leading a diverse, challenging and often fulfilling life. I am a husband, father, son, brother, friend and caregiver. I am a former EVP Managing Director of Grey Advertising, an internet entrepreneur and hospital administrator. I earned a BA and MA, Summa Cum Laude, from the University of Pennsylvania, an MBA and MPH from Columbia University, and an MSW. I have an LCSW license for New York, Connecticut and Florida.
